Red Steel 2 Unveiled

In the June edition of Nintendo Power, Red Steel 2 will be the main centre of attraction. It appears as though the Red Steel franchise has taken a ride on the Wild West side this time, with a cel shaded art style, much like XIII (also developed and published by Ubisoft). WiiMotion Plus has been confirmed by Ubisoft, who want to take the franchise to a new direction with improved controls over the original. At the moment, that is almost all that is known about the game, other than that it will still feature a combination of both swordplay and gunfights.

Review - Real Football 2009 (DSiWare)

Blog (KS8): Nintendo Download Predictions for April 27th

Blog Post by Knuckles Sonic 8...
Every week, I always compile a list of VC and WiiWare predictions for the following update every Monday here in North America. I'm now including DSiWare since the launch window will be pretty much closed by the next update (if it hasn't already been) and things will be settling down a bit. Anyway, here are my predictions for Monday...

ESRB Ratings: Virtual Console and WiiWare Titles

Quite a few titles have been rated by the ESRB in the last one or two weeks and needless to say, some are more interesting than others because they confirm that certain games previously only available in Japan will be getting localized for North America and, quite possibly, other regions as well. Let's take a look at these titles...

Nintendo delivers a slightly-brazen response to Professor Layton 2

Not too long ago, Level-5 announced that all Professor Layton titles will be getting localized for North America. Well, not too long after that, Nintendo responded via a PR with a not-so-friendly response and I can't help but see it as a bit rude.

Mighty Flip Champs!! coming very soon

Mighty Flip Champs!! is coming to the DSiWare service very soon, as confirmed by IGN themselves in their recent impressions of the title.

Skype Technically Possible on the DSi

Recently a representative from Skype commented on their plans for the future and even included a tidbit of info on the DSi's capabilities:
    • “Skype is extending its lead with a focus on rapid innovation, which delivers the new features and products people want, and by integrating Skype software and services into other open platforms with recent examples including the Skype application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Intel-based MIDs, Nokia N97, and a Lite version of Skype for Java-enabled mobile phones. Whilst we can’t comment on any future plans to bring Skype to Nintendo’s DSi, it would technically be possible.”

    Next Mario Party due soon?

There's much reason to suggest that the next Mario Party will be revealed soon, quite possibly at E3 2009, which is why I decided to re-examine this article from a while back in preparation for E3's launch in a short few weeks. Based on past entries (much like Zelda), it would suggest that this year, in 2009, we're getting the next Mario Party fix.

Daily Nintendo Favourite: Louie Armstrong sings "Super Mario World"

"This song is a parody of "What a Wonderful World" by Louie (Louis) Armstrong; If Satchmo were alive, he would have owned a Wii."

Two more New Play Control! titles coming to Japan on June 11

Siliconera confirms for us that Japan will be getting two new titles on June 11as part of the New Play Control! series - Metroid Prime 2 and Chibi-Robo. We already know how Metroid Prime 2 will be like but what about Chibi-Robo? How will it control? That's a burning question on my mind right now. Not only that, but when are we going to hear that Chibi-Robo is, indeed, coming to NA?

Virtua Tennis 2009 on Wii not gimped at all

According to a recent hands-on, Virtua Tennis 2009 on Wii is the exact same as PS3, 360 and even the PC version, and yes, this includes the various online modes that they've worked to incorporate in as well.

News: Deca Sports 2 has online play

Online confirmed! Two recent previews from not too long ago confirm it. Smart move, HUDSON! If you can do it with Deca Sports, what's to stop you from doing something with the next Mario Party iteration? It's very obvious from your recent efforts that you may have something up your sleeve....

EXCLUSIVE: Online features may not be implemented in DSiWare

EXCLUSIVE According to Nic Watt of Nnooo (of Pop fame), the upcoming Pop DSiWare game Pop Plus Solo will sadly not be featuring the online modes that the WiiWare original sported. In fact, he wasn't even sure if the option was available. Here's what he had to say when we asked him about the possibility of an online mode.

        • We will not be including online leaderboards in Pop+ Solo. Currently it is not clear if Nintendo will be offering all of the Nintendo WiFi connectivity to DSiWare titles

That doesn't sound to promising, but on the up-side, the game has now been PEGI rated for Europe, and is hopefully due to be sent off to Nintendo for testing within the next two weeks.

        Mixed Messages FREE PictoChat Edition

As you may now, Activision recently released Mixed Messages via DSiWare. The game is a variation of "Telephone" or "Chinese whispers" as you have to write messages down to be interpreted by others, often resulting in messages very different from the first. The problem that many people saw with this DSi version of the game though, was that it could easily be played using PictoChat for free.

Well, those people were wrong, since previous messages can be read by other people on the top screen, allowing them to effectively cheat. With our top of the range, Uber-duper device though, you can play Mixed Messages using Pictochat, completely free!

What the amazing contraption does, is cover up all the messages that are supposed to be kept hidden, making sure that users don't cheat, and can play the game how it's supposed to be played. All you have to do, is download the PDF file below, print it off on A4 paper, cut it out and stick it together and slide it onto the top of your Nintendo DS lite or Nintendo DSi. All the sizing should be ready for you (although the sides may stick out slightly on the DS lite), alongside instructions and handy tips on how to use the device.

Another amazing feature is that it doesn't matter if you've only got some really thin paper that you'll be able to see through anyway, since the area covering the screen is coloured black, preventing those of you with superior eye functionality from reading previous messages. In addition to this, you can also leave the device in place when closing the lid of your DS, with absolutely no damage done, ready for when you need to play a game on the move.

So, what are you waiting for? Download Mixed Messages FREE PictoChat Edition RIGHT NOW (instructions included) using the link below NOW! And, if you want to: Why not even print off a few more copies for your friends? That way, you can avoid spending 500 Nintendo points (a whopping £4.50 in the UK, or $5 in North America) on something you don't even need to spend money on.

Nintendo Download (NA) - April 13th

Today's update sees the release of the recently-announced Mixed Messages on DSiWare as well as another Master of Illusion Express game entitled Shuffle Faces, Pop-Up Pirate (renamed to Party Fun Pirate) on WiiWare, and even the long-awaited Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure on the Virtual Console. Pop-Up Pirate has been out in EU for a while now so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Billy's consideration of the game can be found on the Games Index page. Mixed Messages was recently announced just last week so it's nice to see it come out so quickly, not to mention the fact that Activison has now been officially considered as a third-party developer for DSiWare. It'll be interesting to see if they plan to expand their efforts towards WiiWare as well. It's also nice to see Pitfall finally make its appearance on the Virtual Console. You can see the press release below.

Steel Penny Games responds to Bruiser and Scratch sales

Jason Hughes over at Steel Penny Games has updated their site with a recent blog post discussing how they've reacted to the sales of their WiiWare game, Bruiser and Scratch, which released in NA back in 2008. What do they have to say? How did Bruiser and Scratch do? Well, to put it frankly, not very good. Here's what Jason said:
        • "Bruiser & Scratch has been available on WiiWare for a while, and as expected, we haven't been blown away by sales figures.  Partly, this is our fault for allowing the game to ship when it wasn't Crash Bandicoot... [W]e should have made a chintzy 2D version of the game, cut the characters, cut the story, and basically shipped it 6 months earlier... Also, if we'd released earlier there would be less puzzle game exhaustion on the part of the user base.. by the time we came out, there were more than enough puzzle games on WiiWare to go around.  The initial reviews skewered us, and that's all she wrote."
It's very discouraging to hear this kind of news especially when the game deserved some praise for what it did. It's a shame, really, but let's hope that this hasn't totally discouraged them from making future WiiWare releases.

        Review - Paper Plane

Like with Pyoro, Paper Plane is another DSi remake of a classic WarioWare mini game. As the name suggests, you control a small paper aeroplane through a series of downward levels. The aim of the game is to travel down each stage without hitting any blocks that may be in your way, and you control the plane by changing it's flight direction with the left and right d-pad buttons.
